The MitteleuropaZentrum and its project partners are preparing a staged performance entitled "FUGE 89" for the Czech-German Culture Days 2019.
We are gathering the material from interviews with contemporary witnesses conducted in Dresden and the Ústí nad Labem region. The result is a pool of first-person testimonies about the experiences of the political changes of 1989 in Saxony and the Czech Republic, which open up a new perspective on the much-discussed problem of 'stolen biographies'.
The dramaturgical treatment of these testimonies places them in a new constellation in which opinions and experiences confirm, complement and contradict each other; the result is - as in a musical fugue - a togetherness and opposition of voices from which a common, tense space of experience becomes recognizable in the performance.
The performances will take place in Dresden and Ústí nad Labem. They are bilingual and subtitled in the other language.
Veronika Kyrianová is responsible for the dramaturgy.
The direction is in the hands of Matthias Spaniel (for the Dresden performance) and the artist duo VerRich (for the performance in Ústí nad Labem).
They play performers from Dresden and northern Bohemia.
