Examinations in the winter semester 2025/26
Online registration for repeat examinations (only in case of illness or failure of the module) takes place in the period
from 01.10. until 10.10.2025
will take place. During this period and until ... early examinations at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics can also be registered as late or repeat examinations .
The online registration for the regular examinations of the winter semester 2025/26 takes place
from 01.11.2025 until 26.01.2026
will take place. This deadline also applies to almost all examinations in sub-subjects, supplementary areas and subject areas from other faculties, with the exception of WiWi examinations, see above.
Online registration for preliminary examinations in the BA degree program Sociology (PO 2016) and in EB Sociology)
01.until 17.11.2025
Based on the experience of previous semesters, we would like to urge you to register as soon as possible after the start of registration. Shortly before the deadline, inquiries pile up and processing times increase , meaning that there is often no time left for any necessary consultations with examiners or further clarification. Deregistration of a registered PL without giving reasons
Examinations that have not yet been taken can be deregistered up to three working days before the actual date. You can find more details here
However, this is only possible via selma/HISQIS for written and oral examinations; for all other examinations, there is a form on which the examiner must confirm the agreed date.
Withdrawal due to illness
If you fall ill for an examination, please send the completed form for the certificate of incapacity for examination in the original immediately (i.e. without culpable delay) by post to the Examination Office (address: TU Dresden, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Academic Affairs Office, Examination Office, Helmholtzstraße 10, 01069 Dresden. Alternatively, you can drop the documents in the mailbox opposite the Examination Office door.
Please let us know in a cover letter whether you would like to withdraw from the PL this semester in general or whether the PL will be made up later. If it will be made up, please also let us know the new date (e.g. for an oral examination), if this has already been set.
Deadline extension for written assignments
The deadline for submitting written assignments ends at the end of the semester at the latest - i.e. on 31.03. or 30.09. The examiners can also set shorter deadlines. If an extension is necessary due to serious problems, longer absences due to illness or similar, please speak to the examiner first. An extension of up to four weeks is possible via the examiner. If possible, submit evidence to confirm the circumstances that have occurred. The Examination Office must be notified of this extension if the deadline of 31 March or 30 September is exceeded. Please submit the completed form signed by the examiner to the Examination Office.
If a four-week extension is not sufficient, a justified application for an exception must be submitted to the Examination Committee - again with supporting documents. The application must be made informally and submitted via the Examination Office.
General regulations for registering for examinations
- Register ontime and in full! On time means that you must register before taking the examination. Exceptions are examinations that took place before the start of registration. Preliminary work, ungraded examinations, presentations, minutes etc. must also be registered - not just written and oral examinations. Always compare your registrations with the module descriptions.
- Only register for the examinations that you really want to take! An examination that is registered for but not taken will be given a grade of 5.0 and cannot always be repeated.
Do not register for an examination with an examiner other than the one you wish to take! If this examiner is not listed, please check with him/her first. It is possible that an examination was overlooked when registering the offer. In this case, the examiners can add it to the online registration. - If an examination cannot be found in the regular online offer (this also and especially applies to repeat examinations, see "Regulations for repeat examinations" below) because it is not offered in the current semester or is not offered by the desired examiner, this examination can be registered in writing after consultation with the examiner and his/her confirmation that he/she is willing to take the examination. Please use the form published on our website and have the examiner sign it (digitally). Please then email the form as a scan to the Examination Office. It is also possible for the examiner to email the form to the Examination Office and indicate their consent in the email.
- This form can also be used if, in exceptional cases, special arrangements are made to take examinations that are not offered.
- After completing your registration, be sure to check that it is complete. In selma, you must first register the module, then the course and finally the actual examination. Under no circumstances should you forget the last step, as this is a common mistake!
If you encounter difficulties when registering (exam not available, system does not allow registration, etc.), please contact the Examination Office immediately!
Erasmus students cannot and do not have to register for examinations online via HISQIS or Selma because they are not bound by specific examination regulations. They acquire certificates of achievement ("Scheine") for their achievements, which are confirmed on the transcript of records by the Erasmus representatives of the faculty at the end of the Erasmus stay.
Regulations for repeat examinations
Students who have failed a first examination attempt in compensable modules due to insufficient performance can only repeat this examination if the entire module was not passed due to the grade of 5.0 awarded here. It is therefore only possible to repeat such an examination if all grades for the module have already been entered and if the module grade is worse than 4.0. The examination regulations exclude retakes to improve grades, with the exception of very rare free attempts (see examination regulations).
Students who have failed a module for the first time in accordance with the above regulations must retake all (!) failed examinations within one year of completing the module. If the module is not passed after taking all repeat examinations, a second repeat examination can be taken. This can (and must!) also be registered for online. It is no longer necessary to apply for an exception. If no second resit examination is taken or this is not passed, the module is definitively failed. The course of study in this subject can then not be continued.
For the repetition of written work (e.g. seminar papers, essays, ...), you do not have to attend a new course if the examiner offers you the opportunity to re-register the work on a new topic (!) with him/her for the first attempt. The "old" course is then the subject matter of the examination. You must register such examinations using the form.
Entering grades
The examiners enter their grades directly in selma/HISQIS. If grades for examinations from previous semesters are still missing, these are not yet available in the Examination Office. If necessary, ask the examiners yourself.
You can request grade certificates with stamp and signature (for applications etc.) by e-mail from the Examination Office.
