Science festival "oha! Adventure Science" was a complete success

Dr. Alexander Karich und Dr. René Ullrich vom IHI Zittau erläutern einem begeisterten Publikum ihre frische Pilzsammlung
For some years now, Upper Lusatia has been growing into a center of modern research - from artificial intelligence and sustainable materials to radio astronomy. But what is behind these projects? Will we be able to ride bicycles from 3D printers, replace plastic with natural fibers or have construction work done by robots in the future?
Answers to these questions were provided by the festival "Oha! Abenteuer Wissenschaft", organised by the Hi!Lusatia network, which was held for the first time last Saturday (20 September 2025) on Görlitz Postplatz in cooperation with the Saxon Agency for Structural Development (SAS) as a "link" between the Jakobstraßenfest and the family festival on Marienplatz, which took place at the same time.
And this concept was a complete success: Görlitz city center was well frequented by the two festivals, the weather played along ideally and so the information and experimentation stands of the Hi!Lusatia partners were very busy.
One of the most popular stands was shared by the IHI Zittau of TU Dresden and the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History with numerous exciting exhibits on the topic of regional biodiversity. Dr. Alexander Karich and Dr. René Ullrich had brought along a freshly "harvested" extensive mushroom collection, which was met with great interest by families and mushroom enthusiasts.
Other participants were:
- 4transfer
- Center for Advanced Systems Understanding (CASUS)
- German Center for Astrophysics (DZA)
- German Aerospace Center (DLR)
- Saxony Cooperative State University
- Fraunhofer - Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU)

"Oha - that stands for Oberlausitz hat Ahnung" reveals Lisa Bail, employee of the association Hi!Lusatia e.V. and organizer of the event. "We wanted to arouse curiosity and show that science is exciting and relevant to everyday life," emphasizes Bail.
