IHI Zittau participates in the science festival "oha! Adventure Science" on 20.9.2025 in Görlitz
For some years now, Upper Lusatia has been growing into a center of modern research - from artificial intelligence and sustainable materials to radio astronomy. But what is behind these projects? Will we be able to ride bicycles from 3D printers, replace plastic with natural fibers or have construction work done by robots in the future?
Answers to these questions will be provided by the experimental mile "Oha! - Science Adventure!", which will be held for the first time on 20 September 2025 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Görlitz Postplatz in cooperation with the Saxon Agency for Structural Development (SAS) as a "link" between the Jakobstraße Festival taking place at the same time and the family festival on Marienplatz.
On Postplatz, the city center will be transformed into an open laboratory. The partners of the Hi!Lusatia network have teamed up with the Saxon Agency for Structural Development to set up such a project.
Children, young people and adults can experience research up close at numerous hands-on stations. Visitors can experiment for themselves, try out new things and exchange ideas with the science teams. Complex topics such as sustainable technologies, innovations in automation and astronomical discoveries are presented in a clear and understandable way. An integrated exhibition, which provides insights into the exciting career opportunities that structural change holds for the next generation in our region, was designed with the participation of SAS as co-initiator and will be on display for the first time on this day.
The list of participating organizations is long:
- 4transfer
- Center for Advanced Systems Understanding (CASUS)
- German Center for Astrophysics
- German Aerospace Center (DLR)
- Saxony Cooperative State University
- Fraunhofer - Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU)

The Sächsische Agentur für Strukturentwicklung GmbH (SAS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Free State of Saxony and the Sächsische Aufbaubank - Förderbank - SAB. The SAS has been assigned the task of carrying out the annual project selection procedures for the implementation of the Coal Regions Investment Act and supporting initiators of structural development projects in Saxony's lignite mining regions as an advisor and funding guide, idea collector and source of inspiration.
