Research
The Chair of Production Economy and Information Technology is run by Prof. Dr. Thorsten Claus. Our interdisciplinary research team is working on innovative methods for production planning and controlling under uncertainty. We furthermore deal with educational research and technologies for collaborative learning targeted at training and education in real and virtual learning environments.
Research at the Chair of Production Economy and Information Technology
Production Management
Industrial production in the 21st century is characterised in many branches by significant uncertainty concerning predictability of customer demand or availability of resources. In order to implement a service-oriented, economic and environmentally-driven industrial production, uncertainty must be overcome through proactive production planning and reactive production control. Research of the Chair of Production Management and Information Technology in the field of production management focuses on the development of industrially applicable procedures of production planning and control, which will meet this expectation. Our research selectively includes related aspects of production planning and control such as logistics or procurement.
Information Technology
In the area of IT, the Chair of Production Management and Information Technology addresses the topics of information management systems and e-learning.
Regarding information management, we focus on modelling operational business processes and their technologically driven implementation that aims at an efficient and transparent design of business process management.
E-learning research concentrates on the development of teaching-learning scenarios and learning environments for higher education and vocational training at universities and industry.
In this context, we examine both collaborative learning against the background of new media and forms of e-assessment. Our competency in university and media didactics in these fields is channelled into advisory services for teachers, placing particular emphasis on the cultural and professional diversity of our students.
