AUTERAS - AI-supported building automation design nominated for the ZVEI Electrifying Ideas Award 2025
Building automation is becoming increasingly important with the new requirements of the Building Energy Act (§71a GEG) and future tightening from Brussels. After all, it enables energy savings of up to 30%. However, it also makes the design, construction and operation of buildings more complex, so that new tools are needed for efficient solutions. The interdisciplinary planning and design software AUTERAS ® is particularly suitable for this. Its unique selling point worldwide is its specialization in distributed and networked software and hardware systems created by "no-code programming". For customer-specific solutions, prefabricated, encapsulated software and hardware systems are usually selected from libraries and catalogs and linked according to user requirements. If you want to use the millions of products available worldwide, the catalog search becomes more complex than a new development from around 10,000 products and the economic advantages of reuse are reversed. Multipolar networking in buildings also requires that instead of searching for individual products ("component mining"), product combinations from several manufacturers that fulfill a common task ("solution mining") and fit together at their network interfaces ("multi-vendor interoperability") are found at the same time. This leads to countless futile attempts, is like solving a puzzle, can no longer be solved satisfactorily by humans and requires exploding computing power.
AI-supported AUTERAS technology solves these problems using its own algorithms and models, paving the way for practical application. It does not require large data centers and little energy and thus makes it easier for small manufacturers without their own full range of products and specialized experts to access the market in a sustainable and digitally sovereign manner. The TUD team led by Prof. Klaus Kabitzsch has incorporated its basic principles into numerous national and international standards. This scope is indispensable for the practical application of any artificial intelligence, which has enabled Germany to maintain its role as a standard-setter in this field.
The first market segment for the use of www.AUTERAS.de is www.KNX.org with 500 manufacturers worldwide. The currently available free version is already being accessed by around a thousand users every month - even without any prior knowledge. The paid version, which is currently being developed together with many manufacturers, will automatically create a solution for the building network by downloading it directly on the construction site. Prior to this, it provides online support with simple questions and videos during customer consultation, finds the best and most cost-effective solutions for all customer requirements in just a few minutes and determines the achievable energy efficiency class according to GEG, where class A, for example, saves up to 30%. It generates texts for specifications, planning and customer documentation in accordance with ISO standards. Through BIM coupling, it cooperates with neighboring tools in the tool ecosystem and saves up to 90% design effort. AUTERAS® was therefore nominated for the Electrifying Ideas Award 2025 of the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI).
