The 2025 DGaO Young Scientist Award goes to Dr. Clemens Bilsing
Dr. Clemens Bilsing, Ph.D., received the 2025 Young Scientist Award from the German Society for Applied Optics (DGaO). The award ceremony took place on May 27, 2026, during the annual conference of the German Society for Applied Optics in Hamburg. The award is presented annually and honors the work of Dr. Bilsing, who conducts research on adaptive optics for computational imaging in Dr. Lars Buettner’s research group at the Chair of Measurement and Sensor Systems Technology (held by Prof. Czarske).
At its annual conference, the German Society for Applied Optics awards the Young Researchers’ Prize for outstanding doctoral dissertations and master’s theses (or diploma theses) from the previous year at a college or university in the German-speaking world in the field of applied optics.
The winners are invited to the annual conference and given the opportunity to present their work in the form of an award lecture. In addition to prize money of €1,000 (doctoral dissertation) or €500 (master’s thesis), the winners receive a one-year free membership in the DGaO.
Since the prize was first awarded in 2013, six students from Prof. Juergen Czarske’s Chair have already been honored as winners of the DGaO Prize for Applied Optics. The Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Bilsing on his award.
