Working Group Services Disability and Studies
Prorektorin Universitätskultur und Internationalisierung, Anja Winkler, Laura Herzog, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Weber, Jens Voegler, Rektorin (v.l.n.r.)
In 2007, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Weber took over the Disability and Study Services working group founded at the Faculty of Computer Science and expanded it with great personal commitment. He laid the foundations for support services that seem to be taken for granted today. This early pioneering work resulted in viable and sustainable structures that are still supported today by the dedicated team of the SBS working group and make an indispensable contribution to equal opportunities at the TUD. The SBS working group led by Prof. Dr. Gerhard Weber (head), Laura Herzog, Jens Voegler and Anja Winkler has been providing highly specialized technical and advisory support for students and employees for many years. This includes the preparation of accessible study materials, advice on assistive technologies, TUD-wide software applications, support solutions for low-barrier examination requirements and the lending and adaptation of technical aids. The peer-to-peer expertise of Anja Winkler, who is blind herself and thus provides practical support, also offers particular added value. This combination of technical expertise, specialized advice and praised experience makes the AG SBS a central point of contact whose work makes the everyday study and work life of many people seeking advice much easier. At a strategic level, Prof. Weber played a key role in shaping the university's development towards inclusion. As a member of the Inclusion Advisory Board, he has been involved in the strategic development of the TUD for many years with great expertise and reliable continuity. Through his involvement in the development of the TUD's action plans for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, he has made a decisive contribution to anchoring inclusion as a strategic development goal for institutions.
Rektorin, Katharina Hunger, Prof. Dr. Jochen Geck (v.l.n.r.)
Katharina Hunger is a Research Associate at the CIMTT Center of Production Engineering and Management in the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering. In 2024, Katharina Hunger ran the "Social Innovation Workshop" summer school to inspire students in the School of Engineering Sciences with innovative ideas and interdisciplinary development processes. Her aim is to enable STEM students to reflect on the challenges of our time, to make them aware of the associated responsibility and to use the skills from the STEM subjects for the development of socially and environmentally friendly innovations through networking in various teams. With the results of the workshop, she succeeded in placing the project "Zukunftswerkstatt Lausitz 2050 - Energie im Fokus" in the university competition for the Science Year 2025 Future Energy and implementing it with funding from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. At the future workshop, researchers, citizens and entrepreneurs discussed what a sustainable energy landscape of the future could look like. Interactive workshops enabled participants to slip into the role of decision-makers, address conflicting goals and develop innovative solutions. Katharina Hunger presents her results and ideas at conferences and shares her experiences and knowledge at the "International Day of Women and Girls in Science" organized at the TUD and initiated by the UN. Katharina Hunger inspires young people to study STEM subjects, strengthens the networking of a wide range of stakeholders, sensitizes young people to take responsibility for the challenges of the present and promotes the transfer of knowledge into society
