First Regio Challenge at the Faculty of Computer Science
The Regio Challenge was held for the first time this year as a further stage of the Saxon Computer Science Competition at four locations in Saxony. The 63 participating pupils from the Upper Elbe region met with their parents and chaperones at the Faculty of Computer Science at TU Dresden on May 10 for an exciting programming competition. With the help of the single-board computer "Calliope mini", they worked on various tasks, depending on their age, which were specially compiled for the competition. They were not only judged on their solutions, but also on their team spirit - because they worked in teams with 1-2 other children they had never met before.
In this way, the Regio Challenge not only promotes interest in programming and technology - it also brings young people together for a joint exchange and, in addition, stakeholders who are committed to the promotion of early-career researchers in computer science.
During the evaluation period, all those present were able to experience computer science interactively or explore the campus in a supporting program involving students and scientists from the School of Engineering Sciences and IT companies.
Dirk Röhrborn, founding partner and CEO of Communardo Software and board member of Silicon Saxony e. V., and Prof. Dr. Thomas Wiedemann from HTW Dresden presented the awards to the winners. "You are all winners!" emphasized project manager Julia Zahneisen. "Each of you will take new experiences and skills home with you today, have met other people interested in computer science and hopefully had fun."
The Regio Challenge was organized under the leadership of the Landesverband Sächsischer Jugendbildungswerke e.V. (LJBW).
