Prof. Andrés Fabián Lasagni, Chair of Laser-Based Manufacturing at TU Dresden and Head of the Centre for Advanced Micro-Photonics at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS, was honoured with the 2024 RAICES Award at the Argentine Embassy in Berlin. The RAICES Awards are among the highest honours granted by the Argentine government to Argentine scientists and technologists living abroad. The award recognizes individuals who not only achieve outstanding results in their field but also maintain continuous collaboration with scientific institutions and programs in Argentina, actively contributing to the strengthening of the national science, technology, and innovation system.
"The collaboration between Argentine and German institutions is a constant source of inspiration and innovation for me," said Lasagni during the award ceremony. "Seeing young Argentine researchers join excellent research groups, publish, patent, return with new ideas or stay and build lasting connections with Argentina is perhaps one of the most meaningful achievements I can share."
The award not only acknowledges Lasagni's scientific excellence but also his long-standing commitment as a bridge-builder between the scientific communities of both countries. Throughout his career, he has promoted cooperative initiatives between German and Argentine research institutions and supported the exchange of early-career researchers. Since 2024, Lasagni has also been coordinating the Network of Argentine Scientists in Germany (RCAA).
The award ceremony took place as part of an international event held simultaneously at several Argentine embassies around the world. In addition to Lasagni, other outstanding Argentine researchers working in countries such as Italy, Canada, Denmark, Australia, the USA, and the United Kingdom were also honoured for their contributions to scientific cooperation.
About Prof. Lasagni
Andrés Lasagni studied chemical engineering at the National University of Comahue (Argentina) and earned his doctorate at Saarland University in Germany, where he began his research in laser-based surface functionalization. His work bridges fundamental research with highly effective industrial applications in fields such as energy, biomedicine, tribology, and optical devices. Lasagni is also co-founder of SurFunction GmbH, a company specializing in surface functionalization, including through laser-based technologies.
