The Saxon Teaching Award has been recognizing particularly innovative and sustainable teaching concepts at Saxony's universities since 2014. The prize is awarded every two years to university lecturers who have made an outstanding contribution to good teaching with new approaches. The teaching prize is now being awarded for the sixth time.
This year's focus is on the "individualization of teaching". The focus is on teaching concepts that take particular account of the different requirements and needs of students and thus help to make learning more efficient.
The prize is awarded in the categories of universities, universities of applied sciences, music and art colleges and the Saxony Cooperative State University. For the first time, there is a fifth category: teacher training. As the quality of teacher training has a decisive influence on the quality of teaching that future teachers receive in schools, this category has been introduced for the first time.
A total of 25,000 euros in prize money will be awarded.
Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow is calling for applications:
"I am delighted to be able to offer the Saxon Teaching Prize again this year despite challenging financial framework conditions. With the teaching award, we are recognizing outstanding university lecturers who are committed to the continuous development of teaching at our institutions. The appreciation of good university teaching is an important contribution to quality assurance and development in the higher education sector, which ultimately benefits all those involved - teachers, students and society as a whole. At the same time, we also highlight the great commitment of all teaching staff at Saxony's universities, their enthusiasm and their aspiration not only to impart knowledge and skills, but also to positively support students in their personal development. Apply with your teaching concept for the Saxon Teaching Award 2025!"
In addition to individuals, groups of up to five people can also apply for a category. The University Executive Boards of the universities, including their students, are entitled to nominate candidates for the teaching award. The application deadline is May 28, 2025, after which all applications will be reviewed and evaluated by a top-class jury. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the end of October.
