Prof. Dr.-Ing. Giang T. Nguyen is the new holder of the Chair in Robotics
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Giang T. Nguyen
Since October 1, 2026 , Prof. Giang T. Nguyen has held the Chair of Robotics at the Institute of Automation. From July 2021 to September 20, 2026, Giang Nguyen served as a Junior Professor and headed the Junior Professorship in Haptic Communication Systems at the Cluster of Excellence CeTI (Center for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop) at TU Dresden. His research focuses on low latency and the flexibility of networked systems to enable interaction between humans and robots.
Speaking about his core research areas, he says: “In this new Chair, we are focusing on the seamless transfer of skills between humans and sensitive, collaborative, and networked robots. I am drawn to the interdisciplinary challenge at the intersection of network software engineering, machine learning, and their application in physical AI. After all, true innovation does not arise in a silo, but rather when theory, software, and real hardware interact on the test bench. Together with the team, we aim to develop practical key technologies that make robotics noticeably smarter, more reliable, and more accessible in everyday life and in industry.”
About the Author
Giang Nguyen served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Deutsche Telekom Chair of Communication Networks at TU Dresden from 2016 to 2019, where he led the NFV/SDN research group. He is also a co-founder of the Dresden-based robotics startup Wandelbots, which enables the intuitive programming of industrial robots through demonstration. In March 2016, he successfully completed his Ph.D. in computer science as a doctoral student under the supervision of Prof. Thorsten Strufe (TU Darmstadt and TU Dresden). Prior to that, he earned his master’s degree in 2005 from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand and his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 2001 from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Vietnam.
