Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Centner is the new Chair of Electrical Machines and Drives at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Prof. Matthias Centner has been the new holder of the Chair of Electrical Machines and Drives at the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering (ETI) since September 1, 2024. His research focuses on condition monitoring in connection with "digital twin" models for the safest and most sustainable use of electric drives. He also works on drives with very high power density, such as those required for electrified aircraft.
After studying electrical engineering at the TU Dresden, Mr. Centner completed his doctorate at the TU Berlin in the field of "Development and metrological investigation of high-speed asynchronous machines". During his work at Siemens Dynamowerk Berlin from 2008 to 2022, Mr. Centner held a variety of positions, including head of the "Special Electrical Calculations and Basic Topics" department. Prior to his appointment at TU Dresden, Mr. Centner was Chair of Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences.
Mr. Centner says about his future at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering: "In addition to research, I see it as a great task to convey the fascination for my field to the next generation of students and early-career researchers and to inspire future generations to study technology and engineering."
The faculty management is delighted that Prof. Centner has taken up his post and wishes him every success!
