Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wenke Weinreich is the new holder of the Chair of Functionalized Microelectronics for Heterogeneous Systems
Prof. Wenke Weinreich
Effective August 1, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wenke Weinreich has assumed the Chair of Functionalized Microelectronics for Heterogeneous Systems (gB/FhG-IPMS) (formerly the Chair of Opto-Electronic Components and Systems, held by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hubert Lakner). This appointment also entails her assuming the directorship of the Fraunhofer IPMS.
Prof. Weinreich earned her degree in Applied Natural Sciences from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and completed her Ph.D. in 2013 at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. Her core research area focused on material development for DRAM memory. At Fraunhofer IPMS, she built an impressive career, progressing from a Research Associate to a group leader, then to the head of a business unit, and finally to the head of an entire division. As deputy institute director, she was most recently responsible for annual budgets in the tens of millions and led a team of about 110 employees.
Prof. Wenke Weinreich plans to use her Chair in Functionalized Microelectronics for Heterogeneous Systems in a targeted manner to advance pioneering research into innovative technologies. These technologies should then be scalable at Fraunhofer, such as on-chip integrated energy management systems like batteries and harvesters. In addition to her scientific work, Prof. Weinreich is actively involved in international expert committees such as the IEEE Technical Committee of the IEDM. She also serves as General Chair of the ICICDT and holds several patents.
We extend a warm welcome to Prof. Weinreich.
