Two Full Paper and a Workshop Participation from Marc Satkowski at CHI 2021
A few weeks ago, Marc Satkowski presented two full papers at the ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2021) which took place from May 8 to May 13. Additionally, he participated at a workshop hold at the conference.
As a first author, he presented the joint work of him and Raimund Dachselt with the title "Investigating the Impact of Real-World Environments on the Perception of 2D Visualizations in Augmented Reality". In this work, he focused on investigating how the visual background can influence the perception of information visualization in Augmented Reality. For that, he created four background configurations inside the P20-Lab which were then used within two studies. The studies itself were focused on the influence of both the visual complexity of backgrounds as well as the influence of a secondary task on the participants performance and user experience.
As a second author, the joint work of him and Ricardo Langner, Wolfgang Büschel, and Raimund Dachselt with the title "MARVIS: Combining Mobile Devices and Augmented Reality for Visual Data Analysis" was presenteda as well. In this work, the authors created and explored a design space which enables the extention of the limited 2D display space of tablet with the help of Augmented Reality content which can be shown above, around, or even between different tablets. For that, they created a design space, based on their own expertise but also expert interviews, which was then implemented in a prototype application. This application was then used to evaluate their design ideas with a expert review.
Lastly, Marc Satkowski took also part in the Workshop on Evaluating User Experiences in Mixed Reality, which was focused in connecting practitionars and researcher in the field of user experience research for Augmented Reality. For that workshop, he and his co-authors Wolfgang Büschel and Raimund Dachselt, presented a position paper called "Experiences with User Studies in Augmented Reality". In this paper, they report on their experience with conducting user studies within Augmented Reality system and propose for some of those potential solutions.
