VDI Congress "Women in Engineering" on 27.09.2025
This year's VDI "Women in Engineering" congress at TU Dresden was held under the motto "Creating Circularity - Women Engineers for a Sustainable World" and offered around 200 participants a varied program. Discussions, specialist presentations and practical workshops highlighted perspectives for a sustainable future in engineering. TU Dresden was particularly well represented.
A highlight of the Friday evening was the panel discussion "Opportunities and challenges for a sustainable world?", which highlighted key issues for the future.
The panel discussed:
-
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Beckmann, TU Dresden
-
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martina Zimmermann, TU Dresden
-
Adrian Willig, VDI
-
Rebecca Bliklen, Ramboll
The discussion was moderated by Ina Christiansen from the VDI network Women in Engineering. The focus was on the role of engineers in shaping a resource-conserving industry, the importance of interdisciplinary approaches and the opportunities opened up by the circular economy and digitalization.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martina Zimmermann from the Chair of Mechanics of Materials and Failure Analysis at TU Dresden, led a workshop on the topic:
"Digitalization and classical engineering education - how engineers* can make a sustainable contribution to the challenges of climate change."
Around 50 participants took part - a considerable number out of a total of around 200 congress attendees. Specific projects were presented in the workshop that illustrate the bridge between digital transformation and traditional training. The participants were given direct access to further information on the project homepages via QR codes.
