Students of the Chair of Databases win Data Science Challenge Award
The team from the Chair of Databases at the Faculty of Computer Science took first place in the Data Science Challenge at the BTW25 conference. Under the direction of Dipl.-Inf. Jimmy Pöhlmann, Dr. Claudio Hartmann and Prof. Wolfgang Lehner, eleven students from our faculty developed an innovative approach to forecasting energy prices. The task was to develop a model for the hourly daily forecast of energy prices for Germany based on data from the SMARD.de platform on 18 February. The TUD students Hannes Bachmann, Emmanuel Diehl, Georg Gonsior, Daniel Ricardo Gonzalez Villamizar, Julius Hanusch, Clara Hüfner, Malte Alexander Maier-Knop, Jordan Wenzel Richter, Ansgar Seidemann, Moritz Tschöpe and Felix Wahler have been working on the implementation of the project since October 2024. A total of 13 teams from all over Germany took part in the competition.
"We are particularly pleased that our students' technical and organizational skills have been honored with this award, as it not only recognizes the work they have done, but also encourages initiative and research-relevant creativity," emphasizes Wolfgang Lehner.
The 21st Conference on Database Systems for Business, Technology and the Web (BTW25) took place in Bamberg from March 3 to 7. It is held every two years and is the most important forum for the database community in the German-speaking world.
