Augmented Reality in Smart Buildings with HoloLens

This KP is about combining BIM (Building Information Modeling) with AR (Augmented Reality) to provide an augmented view on Smart Buildings with the help of Microsoft HoloLens.
BIM and IFC models of buildings, houses, rooms and factories are usually used during the conception and construction of the respective buildings. They represent the buildings as 3D models with various special views (e.g., electric circuits, water pipes, surfaces, etc.) and corresponding meta-data. In this KP, we want to visualize these models with the help of Augmented Reality technology with the Microsoft HoloLens to enable different views on and interactions with the building and rooms the viewer is currently in. When developing the prototype for the Microsoft HoloLens and linking it to the background software infrastructure, we will focus on a model-driven development approach to be able to flexibly load and exchange BIM models in varying rooms and contexts.
In this KP, we would like to start the development of an new prototype. The tasks include (among more):
- Create examplary BIM/IFC models (with AutoDesk Revit)
- Load and visualize BIM models in HoloLens (static + from BIM server)
- Place models in room in AR (static + dynamic with markers)
- Filter models w.r.t. different aspects (surfaces, electrical circuits, ...)
- Add sensors and actuators (machines, robots) to BIM model and show in AR
- Show live sensor values in AR, control actuators in AR
- Create workflows in AR
- Share Holograms
- More topics open for discussion
The result of the developments should lead to a prototype supporting Smart Maintenance and Smart Facility Management in the CyPhyMan project. We plan on presenting the prototype at various fairs, exhibitions and conferences
