Echtzeit-AGInside Snapdragon - Long-term updates for mobile devices
Unlike standard PCs, mobile/embedded devices such as smartphones usually require significant changes in the operating system to run correctly. For example, most Android devices use heavily modified versions of Linux, with millions of lines changed to implement support for the hardware. Upgrading such devices to newer versions of Linux is extremely complex and therefore rarely done, which limits long-term security and function updates. In this talk I want to look deep inside an older smartphone based on the widely used Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset and share some of my experiences porting the latest version of Linux with minimal changes. While the usability for smartphones is limited due to some missing functionality it has proven very useful for embedded boards with similar chipsets. Those who participate in person will have the chance to try out some live demos with Linux and L4Re. 😄
