The Chair of Operating Systems
The Operating Systems Group is in a transition phase. After the formal retirement of Prof. Hermann Härtig (head of the group from 1994 to 2019) and the acting leadership of Dr. Michael Roitzsch, Prof. Horst Schirmeier took over as head of the professorship on Oct. 1st, 2021. Prof. Härtig continues his research and teaching work as senior professor.
Working in the Operating Systems Group
It is our objective to combine ambitious systems research with profound education in operating systems and related areas. We try to push research and development far enough such that its results can be used outside of our group, for example by other research groups or as starting points for industrial partners.
Practical system programming is therefore an essential part of our work and we can always use support. If you find our topics interesting, you can join our group as a student assistant or with thesis work. We set tasks in dialog with you and offer a collaborative work environment and supervision on an equal footing. Students are closely integrated into the group and thus quickly connect to the topic of their choice.
You can deepen your practical programming skills in various directions with us, giving you a good starting point for the leap into professional life. In the industry, successful graduates of our group are highly appreciated. Interesting results from student work have also become the starting point for high-ranking scientific publications. This can be the first step toward an academic career leading to a doctorate.
So come and talk to us if you want to join the OS group. The experience of long-time group leader Professor Hermann Härtig will continue to be available to us as part of his senior professorship.
