Information concerning oral exams at the institute of systems architecture
- Course combinations: Generally all courses offered by this institute can be combined. Additionally courses from other institutes can be combined if the content is sufficiently related. Exceptions will be announced by the corresponding chairs. For logistical reasons we ask that the selected course combinations do not involve more than two chairs if possible. A binding confirmation of a course combination is issued through confirmation of the admission form (Zulassungsformular) by the main examiner (Hauptprüfer). Informal confirmations may be acquired through an enquiry by e-mail.
- Examinations of practicals: An inter-modular practical (Komplexpraktikum) may be part of an inter-modular exam (Komplexprüfung). The corresponding credit points are determined by the responsible chair. In this case such a practical or a topically similar mandatory practical (Pflichtpraktikum) can no longer be additionally counted as a certificate (Schein).
- Examiner: Main examiner of a inter-modular exam is generally the lecturer whose chair has the largest share of weekly semester hours or credit points. Any additional exams in courses of other chairs are usually conducted by assistants or other staff members. When courses are equally distributed among several chairs, the examinee can choose which main examiner he wants to conduct his exam. In certain cases eligible post-doctoral assistants or staff members can also be the main examiner.
- Exam registration: The registration to the inter-modular exam with corresponding appointment generally takes place in person in the administration office of the main examiner. The filled in admission form of the examination office needs to be presented here. A registration solely over e-mail is currently not possible, since the documents must be signed in person and an appointment is individually assigned.
- Examination process: The inter-modular exam takes place as an individual oral exam in the office of the main examiner in the presence of one or more assessors who may conduct part of the exam. No aids or tools are allowed for the duration of the exam. Depending on the scope of the exam, it usually lasts between 15 and 60 minutes. The result will be given to the examinee directly after the exam. If parts of the exam were previously taken at other institutes or faculties and are to be included according to the chosen course composition in the inter-modular exam, the corresponding verification or certification needs to be presented at the exam. In that case, the exam result is incorporated proportionally according to the relative semester weekly hours or credit points into the overall result. However, external exam results from outside the TU Dresden are considered in the usual process of the examination office for the recognition of equivalent course studies.
