TR@NSFER-ING - Online survey of academic staff in the School of Engineering Sciences
Project content and objectives
The TR@NSFER-ING project is conducting an online survey in the School of Engineering Sciences to systematically record transfer activities and collaborations with partners from science and practice. The aim is to gain a better understanding of how knowledge and technology transfer is currently implemented, what attitudes and motivations are associated with it and how cooperation, communication and support can be structured in a more targeted manner in the future.
Roadmap: The survey will start in February 2026 and data collection is scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2026. Initial results are expected in fall 2026. The project will conclude with a published results report with recommendations for action and scientific publications.
Benefits of the study
The results will serve as a basis for making transfer in the School of Engineering Sciences more effective and visible:
-
needs-based further development of transfer offers
-
Identification of obstacles and concrete potential for improvement
-
Derivation of recommendations for the faculty/department (structures, support services, incentives)
-
Strengthening the visibility and effectiveness of transfer activities
Focus of the survey
The survey covers central topics that characterize transfer in everyday work:
-
Introductory questions: satisfaction, role of science, social impact
-
Transfer activities: Collaboration with science, business, politics and society (e.g. collaborations, events, theses, patents, start-ups)
-
Motivations: Duty, career, reputation, resources, personal concerns, etc.
-
Framework conditions: Incentive systems, support, appreciation, work context, professional community
-
Sociodemographics: position, subject, gender, age, nationality, length of employment
Based on the "Transfer1000" study by Fraunhofer IAO
The structure and topics of the survey are based on a nationwide survey conducted by the Fraunhofer IAO (2024) on the transfer activities of researchers. This enables comparisons to be made and makes it easier to classify the results.

Data protection, participation and use of data
Participation is voluntary and pseudonymized, processing takes about 15 minutes and can be canceled at any time. The privacy policy can be found in the online survey. The survey will run until April 30, 2026; the data will only be evaluated in aggregated form and used to derive recommendations for action and for scientific publications. Perspectives from people with currently little transfer are also important in order to obtain a realistic overall picture.
