Portrait of Professor Beitelschmidt
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Beitelschmidt has been Dean of Studies for the Mechatronics degree program since 2012. He has been at TU Dresden since 2005 and has held the Chair of Dynamics and Mechanism Design since 2010. He was born in Passau in 1967.
Dynamics and mechanism technology ... is present in all technical systems in the form of movements, vibrations and noises. In many places, the phenomena are desirable, such as in the working movements of a machine or the locomotion of a vehicle. Elsewhere, they can disturb users and outsiders or impair the function of the systems.
Being a professor... means having a great deal of freedom but also a great deal of responsibility. You are personally responsible to your students for the quality of your training and to your project partners for the success of your work.
Students... should be curious, critical and ambitious. Every question in a lecture helps the student and myself.
In the future ... dynamics and mechanism technology will play an important role in transportation and traffic. Safe, comfortable, electronically networked and quiet means of transportation will always require a design based on dynamics, regardless of the drive system of the future.
If I could study again ... I would choose mechatronics!
Excellence ... gives our university a boost in attracting excellent students and providing them with an excellent education.
