Portrait of Professor Hampel
Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dr. h. c. Uwe Hampel has held the Chair of Imaging Techniques in Energy and Process Engineering at the Institute of Power Engineering since 2012. He also heads the Department of Experimental Thermofluid Dynamics at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf.
Without imaging measurement techniques ... advanced medicine, modern materials testing or basic scientific research would be inconceivable. High-speed cameras, thermographic imaging devices, electron microscopes, ultrasound imaging and computer tomography are outstanding examples of this.
Being a professor ... means imparting knowledge, arousing curiosity and creating enthusiasm.
Students ... must be capable of interdisciplinary thinking and teamwork to solve complex problems, but also have the communication skills to convince others of their solutions. Students should have a very good basic knowledge of natural sciences.
In the future ... imaging measurement methods in particular, which are already standard in laboratories or medical facilities today, will increasingly find their way into industrial process measurement technology and sensor technology. This is because efficient and safe processes in energy and process engineering increasingly require modern measurement methods for monitoring and control.
If I could study again ... it would certainly be an engineering subject.
Excellence... The basis for its recognition is long-term successful work as well as creative ideas and sustainable concepts for the future. It opens up new creative possibilities for a university.
