Portrait of Professor Mailach
Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Ronald Mailach has held the Chair of Turbomachinery and Flight Propulsion since October 2015. He was born in 1968 in Schkeuditz.
Without turbomachinery and aircraft engines ... no power plant or industrial operation would work and no modern commercial aircraft would fly.
Being a professor ... is my dream job, which gives me the freedom to realize my potential in research and teaching. Arousing enthusiasm for my subject area is my greatest joy.
Students ... should make intensive use of the excellent range of courses offered by our university, as their studies lay the foundation for their future careers. In addition to acquiring specialist knowledge, it is particularly important to acquire an independent and goal-oriented way of working and the ability to work in a team.
In the future ... turbomachinery will continue to play a major role in energy supply and in many areas of industry. However, due to the energy transition, they will have to be operated much more flexibly, which poses major challenges for us as engineers. Aircraft engines should become even more environmentally friendly and quieter in the future. These ambitious goals will only be achievable through new engine concepts and major improvements. It will be an exciting and interesting development process.
If I could study again ... I would choose a subject from the School of Engineering Sciences because it guarantees interesting fields of activity.
Excellence ... is a great distinction, but it also entails the obligation to live up to this distinction in research and teaching.
