Portrait of Professor Wallmersperger
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wallmersperger was elected Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering in 2016. He has held the Chair of Mechanics of Multifunctional Structures since 01.04.2010. He was born in Stuttgart in 1971.
Without knowledge of mechanics ... no supporting structure and no vehicle would be able to withstand the loads that occur. Multifunctional structures, such as load-adapted wings, enable the intelligent implementation of energy-efficient designs.
Being a professor ... is a wonderful job for me because you are both a teacher and a researcher. I appreciate the opportunity to pass on knowledge and to constantly learn from students and staff.
Students ... should be inquisitive, interested, positively critical and ambitious and take advantage of the opportunities offered in their studies.
In the future ... multifunctional structures will play a significant role in actuators and sensors in diverse disciplines and fields such as medicine, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering. The calculation of structures will become more diverse and extensive. The aim will continue to be to find the best possible solution for corresponding applications.
If I could study again ... I would again choose a basic, technical degree course that enables you to work in research or development.
Excellence ... means achieving outstanding quality - we must not close our minds to this. Only in this way can we continue to attract the best students and employees and be equipped for the future!
