Johann-Andreas-Schubert Prize for Three Outstanding Theses from the Faculty

Dr. Tino Wollmann, a Research Associate at the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology; Dr. Christian Mathiszik, a Research Associate at the Chair of Joining Technology and Assembly; and Saskia Bohn, a graduate of the faculty, were awarded the Johann-Andreas-Schubert Prize. Sachsenmetall presents the award every two years for outstanding scientific work with particular practical relevance.
Wollmann and Mathiszik were honored for their dissertations: Dr. Wollmann for his thesis “Methods for Analyzing the Damage-Dependent Vibration Behavior of Rotating Fiber-Reinforced Structures,” and Dr. Mathiszik for his dissertation on “Non-Destructive Characterization of Resistance Spot Welds Using Passive Magnetic Flux Density Testing.”
Saskia Bohn received the award in the “Best Master’s and Diploma Theses” category for her thesis “Optimization of Selective Lithium Extraction from Pyrolyzed Black Mass, Taking Efficiency and Economic Viability into Account.” The thesis was completed in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS, Department of Hydrometallurgical Recycling and Raw Materials Chemistry.
The awards ceremony took place on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig. Guests included Saxony’s Minister President Michael Kretschmer and Dr. Jörg Brückner, President of the Employers’ Association.
