2026 Lionel Shreir Award for a Female Researcher in the Faculty
Lis Geraldine Zschach, a Research Associate at the Chair of Laser-based Manufacturing at the TUD Dresden University of Technology, was honored with the prestigious 2026 Lionel Shreir Award from the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr). The award was presented at the 67th Corrosion Science Symposium, which took place as part of the international conference EUROCORR 2026 in Dublin, Ireland.
The Lionel Shreir Award is presented annually for the best scientific presentation among student contributions at the Corrosion Science Symposium. The evaluation criteria include, in particular, the originality and scientific significance of the research, in-depth subject knowledge, and the quality of the presentation and the subsequent technical discussion.
Lis Zschach received the award for her presentation titled “Influence of Wettability on the Salt-Spray Corrosion Behavior of Laser-Structured Aluminum.” Her research examines the relationships between laser-induced surface modification, wettability, and the corrosion behavior of aluminum, contributing to a better understanding of laser-based surface treatments for corrosion protection.
The award is named after corrosion scientist Lionel Louis Shreir (1914–1992), who had a significant impact on the field of corrosion science through his research and his commitment to fostering early-career researchers.
