Inspiring the Next Generation of STEM Students: Chair of Wood Technology and Wood-Based Bioeconomy Supports the ChemKids Award
In mid-September, Prof. Alexander Pfriem and his team from the Chair of Wood Technology and Wood-Based Bioeconomy supported the awards ceremony for the Saxon ChemKids experimental science competition, which aims to inspire young people to take an interest in the natural sciences and sustainable technologies.

The focus was on paper recycling and the question of how paper products can be manufactured and recycled in a circular economy in a way that conserves resources. Under the title “Into the trash can – and then what? Paper-Based Packaging Material in the Circular Economy,” the researchers gave an interactive presentation covering topics such as the recyclability of packaging, innovative manufacturing processes, and ways to repurpose paper fibers. Afterward, participants were given a behind-the-scenes look at the Chair’s laboratories and research projects.
