New demonstration and transfer center at TU Dresden facilitates SMEs' entry into artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to optimize processes and tap considerable potential in the production and manufacturing industry. However, how do small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular get started with suitable AI applications? The ProKI Network for Demonstration and Transfer, in which seven centres throughout Germany are represented in addition to the TU Dresden, provides answers and support for company employees. The university institutions are now offering information events, industrial-scale demonstrations, qualification programs and individual consultations.
Dresden offers special expertise in forming technology
ProKI Dresden focuses on the field of forming technology. Manufacturers of forming machines, automation or software companies as well as all branches of industry with forming technology processes receive an extensive and free offer at ProKI. With the association of experts from the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering at TU Dresden, the team bundles competencies and offers, among other things, thematic tours and concept workshops to identify AI potentials. Before measures are prepared for the introduction of AI in one's own production, questions can be tested in test environments at the centre and current research results can be demonstrated.
Artificial intelligence has great potential for production
Whether predictive maintenance of machines through forecasting AI or status reports on wear conditions of tools through in-process information - the possibilities of artificial intelligence in forming technology are diverse, yet hardly widespread. Their use could avoid downtimes and improve quality controls. In addition, resources can be used optimally and employees can be supported by collaborative robot systems. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has therefore been funding the ProKI Network for Demonstration and Transfer since October 1, 2022. The common goal of the network is to improve the value creation processes of manufacturing SMEs more quickly, to increase the productivity and quality of components, and to use AI potential to strengthen Germany as an economic region.
