TU Dresden supports students in the Junior.ING competition: Kick-off on 28.10.
The Junior.ING competition invites pupils to get creative and gain practical engineering experience. This year, everything revolves around the theme: "Arena - well roofed!". We are looking for innovative models of a stadium roof.
TU Dresden offers participants support so that they can put their technical and creative skills to the test.
The offer is aimed at interested students from grade 9 onwards.
Kick-off:
On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, TU Dresden invites interested students and teachers to a kick-off event where they can learn more about the competition and the university's support options. Both interested students from grade 9 onwards and teachers who would like to bring the offer to their school are invited.

Date: Tuesday, October 28, 2025, 4:30 - 6:30 pm
-
Location: TU Dresden, Beyer-Bau, BEY E16, Beyer-Bau, George-Bähr-Str. 1, 01069 Dresden
To participate in the kick-off event, please register by 21.10.
What will happen at the kick-off event?
Lecture: From model to masterpiece - designing stadium roofs
Oliver Wege, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Institute of Concrete Structures
How do engineers design and plan stadium roofs that withstand wind and weather - and look spectacular at the same time?
Together we will take a look behind the scenes of Civil Engineering: What ideas, knowledge and creativity are actually behind the large roofs of our sports arenas?
Using illustrative examples, you will learn how supporting structures work, why certain shapes are chosen and what contribution engineers make to society and the environment.
Workshop: Creativity techniques
Dr. Martin Kern, Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology.
In this workshop you will get an overview of different creativity methods that can be used to solve complex tasks creatively.
What happens next?
After the kick-off event, the next phase of the competition begins. Here, the participants from TU Dresden will receive support in a targeted manner in the construction of a model of their stadium roof. Scientists from the fields of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering will be on hand to help the students refine their concepts and develop concrete solutions. The students will have the opportunity to work in TU Dresden's modern laboratories and workshops and draw on professional technology and the expertise of the technicians.
-
06 November 2025, 15:00 - 18:00: Concept workshop - In this workshop, participants can further develop and optimize their designs.
-
January 12, 2025, 15:00 - 18:00: Feedback and construction workshop - Here, students receive detailed feedback and support in the practical implementation of their models.
-
Further workshop dates are possible by arrangement.
Why should students take part?
-
Practical support from experts: Throughout the competition, students receive valuable feedback from TU Dresden scientists.
-
First insights into the engineering sciences: The competition offers a hands-on opportunity to develop technical skills and deal with real engineering challenges.
