Award ceremony of the Otto Hansel Foundation 2022 at the Nuremberg traid fair Fachpack
To promote young talent in the field of processing and packaging machinery, the Otto Hansel Foundation was established at the TU Dresden in 2001. Together with the Chair of Processing Machines/Processing Technology and the VDMA, it awards prizes to outstanding student research projects and theses every year.
This year, the student research projects were once again honored at the Fachpack trade fair in Nuremberg. In his laudation, Dr. Ralf-Otto Hänsel described the opportunities available in mechanical engineering, which in addition to the exciting tasks in the course of the development of sustainable processing technologies and digitization also offer valuable opportunities for the personal development of young people in gaining international experience. Together with Professor Majschak (Chair holder and Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging - IVV Dresden) and Mr. Richard Clemens (Managing Director of the Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association of the VDMA and member of the Foundation Board) as well as the students' representative Tobias Baginski, Dr. Ralf-Otto Hänsel gave the award. Ralf-Otto Hänsel awarded the prize for the best diploma thesis (each endowed with 1000€) to Paul Kloß for his work on "Simulation of heat input during heat contact sealing" and to Lucas Kowatschewitsch for his work on "Development of a test device for processing cardboard and determination of important processing parameters".
The prize for the best student research project (endowed with 500€) went to Lukas Herbst for the development of a measuring method that enables the processing of macroalgae as a natural and compostable packaging material on a larger scale.
