Chair of Thermodynamics
Thermodynamics is a subject primarily associated with the physical sciences and provides important foundations for energy and process engineering in particular. It deals with the balancing and evaluation of processes for energy conversion and transfer as well as the description of the thermal and energetic state behavior of fluids.
The Chair covers basic lectures on thermodynamics/energy theory for students on degree programs in Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems, Process and Natural Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management as well as Wood Science and Technology. In-depth courses such as process thermodynamics, chemical and multiphase thermodynamics, reaction engineering and applied molecular thermodynamics are also offered.
Core research areas include the characterization and modelling of diffusion and adsorption processes in porous solids, the investigation and development of new storage media for thermal energy storage and the provision of thermophysical material data.
