Exkursion to "Blue Wonder" 2022
With the best students of the exams "Numerical Methods" and "Strength of Materials" we went to the bridge "Blue Wonder" again this year. Thanks to Mr. Stein from GMG Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, who have been professionally supervising the bridge for years, we were able to go not only under the bridge to the abutment chambers, but also very high up on a pylon. The few preserved construction and calculation drawings in the large room under the abutments, which are loaded by tons, impressively underlined the extraordinary engineering achievement to design and construct such a bridge (without computer). The details of the static system and the bearings of the bridge were extremely interesting. The heaviest weights made of old railroad tracks, dense rock and the like were above our heads and have kept the bridge in balance for more than a century. The climb up the pylons, however, was undoubtedly the pinnacle of the excursion. From one of the two pinnacles of the bridge, one had a fantastic view over the whole of Dresden that only a few can experience. After some time in airy heights and a slightly strange feeling in the stomach, we then went to the Elbegarten for a leisurely finale. With bratwurst, pretzels and a cool drink we chatted about studies, research and career until late in the evening. Many thanks again to Mr. Stein for the competent tour!
