The Chair of Energy Process Engineering (EVT) is particularly committed to the processes of energy technology and process engineering with reference to mechanical engineering, chemistry, environmental technology and the basic materials industry. The focus is on processes and systems associated with energy conversion and the refinement and recovery of materials. The objectives include the reduction of primary energy use, the reduction of emissions, the closing of material cycles and the rational use of energy.
The Chair employs around 30 people in three research groups:
| Research group | Research group leader:in |
| Energy Systems Engineering | Dr.-Ing. Simon Unz |
| Gas purification | Dr. rer. nat. Janine Kleemann |
| High-temperature process engineering | Dr.-Ing. Daniel Bernhardt |
The employees work in research and development projects on the topics of efficient energy conversion and energy use, including energy storage, processing and recovery of biogenic raw and natural materials, fuel characterization, corrosion reduction especially in steam generators as well as pollutant reduction through primary and secondary measures in pyrolysis, gasification and combustion processes.
As part of the research and development projects, the courses in the basic studies are dedicated to thermodynamics/heat and mass transfer and in the advanced studies in particular to combustion and power plant technology, thermal process engineering and resource protection.
Laboratory facilities, pilot plants and pilot plants are available for the investigations. In addition to the experimental investigations, mathematical modeling of drying, pyrolysis, gasification and combustion processes in various apparatuses, of mass and heat transfer processes and gas purification systems is carried out.
Through close cooperation with plant engineering companies and operators, the results of research are constantly being put into practice. Examples include investigations into the flexibilization of power plants, online balancing and heat flow measurement at biomass cogeneration plants and waste incineration plants.
The Chair is also actively involved in organizing the Power Plant Technology Colloquium.
