Hannes Rox receives first prize at Energy Campus 2025
Since 2011, the “Stiftung Energie & Klimaschutz” has been awarding annual prizes to young scientists whose doctoral theses contribute to shaping our energy future and environment. This year, the anonymously submitted works were reviewed and evaluated by a six-member jury headed by Prof. Alexander Colsmann (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology). At this year's symposium in Karlsruhe, Hannes Rox was awarded first prize for his dissertation entitled “Towards membraneless alkaline water electrolysis by improved bubble management.”
In his work, he deals with the growth of hydrogen and oxygen bubbles during water electrolysis and its influence on cell voltage. By functionalizing the electrode surfaces using laser structuring (in cooperation with the Chair of Laser-Based Manufacturing of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrés Fabián Lasagni), the performance of nickel electrodes could be significantly improved. In addition, the application of such electrodes in a membraneless electrolyzer was successfully tested, which was developed as part of another collaboration within TU Dresden (Chair of Fluid Mechanics of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Jochen Fröhlich).
