Paul Naumann receives VDI award
Paul Naumann has received a VDI award for his diploma thesis on "Height measurements in foam and froth experiments using optical measurement techniques". The Dresden section of the VDI (Association of German Engineers) awards the prize in recognition of very good practice-oriented final theses on engineering topics.
In his thesis, Paul Naumann dealt with optical and laser-based methods for measuring foam and froth heights. These measurement techniques can be used for example in froth flotation. In this method for processing ores and recycling, particle-laden froths play an important role. Paul Naumann investigated foam and froth height measurement using a lidar sensor and an industrial laser scanner on various two- and three-phase foams and froths and in a laboratory flotation cell. In addition to quantifying the measurement errors, the work also deals with the influence of foam and froth properties such as the liquid content on the height measurement and thus makes a valuable contribution to the monitoring of flotation processes.
