Testing Plant BORAN
Testing Plant BORAN
The BORAN testing plant is the most important tool to conduct integral boracic transport experiments in the framework of the project “Analysis of reactivity effectiveness of Boron input into SWR-fuel elements in transient core condition”. The experiments are meant to deliver information about the period and the quantity of Boron transport in the fluid and gaseous phase of the coolant. With these results, we are able to identify the reactivity efficiency of Boron input in the core of a BWR.
The Testing plant BORAN simulates the primary loop of a BWR in its basic components. The dimension is based on a SWR-plant of the 1300 MW-class in a volumetric scale of 1: 6000.
The axial dimension like the length of the heating channel and the separation zone for the two-phase flow were rebuilt to scale 1:1. The plant delivers a heat output of 50 kW and has a continuously adjustable circulation pump as well as a variable heat release connected to the secondary loop. This set up enables us to simulate various scenarios in order to conduct experiments after the reactor has been switched off and produces afterheat.
