Electrical connection technology
Material science investigation of cylindrical conductor arrangements
In the frame of this joint project fundamental investigations will be made on current carrying connections to cylindrical conductors and inlets made of aluminium. The connections will be made using longitudinal and cross pressing as well with electromagnetic pulse technology (EMPT) (figure 1).
Thermal short-term tests in a warm-cabinet will be made at the IEEH in order to understand the influence of joining parameters on the quality of the connection. Subsequently, on the basis of these measurements the most appropriate connections for current-flow will undergo long-term tests. At the IfWW metallographic investigations and mechanical tests will be made on short- and long-term tested connections in the area of the contact.
