Strenghtening German-Korean Collaborations
SCIENTIFIC TRIP TO KOREA TO VISIT PARTNERS OF THE ILK
Dipl.-Ing. Paul Hoffeins, research associate at the Institute for Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) at TU Dresden, traveled to South Korea in October 2023 to intensify existing partnerships and explore new colllaboration opportunities. His visit contributes to the strengthening of German-Korean cooperation, which has already become a fixture in the international research community through multi-year cooperative ventures and exchange programs. | Further to National Network Korea of the ILK.
The tour began at the renowned Institute of Advanced Composite Materials at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Jeonbuk, with which TU Dresden signed a cooperation agreement in 2016. During the visit, discussions focused on how collaborative approaches can lead to new, groundbreaking technologies that will make the electrically powered machines of the future more efficient and sustainable.

The second stop of the trip took Mr. Hoffeins to Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) in Jeonju to further consolidate the basis for cooperation that has existed since August 2022. Based on the successful joint mobility projects in 2023, which focused on the exchange of students and school pupils, but also of important academic leaders, the systematic further development of future TUD-JBNU exchange programs was discussed.

Mr. Hoffeins concluded his trip by attending the 2023 Daegu International Future Auto & Mobility Expo (DIFA) in Daegu. As part of the Expo, the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs (TIPA) hosted the "Korea-Germany Future Automotive Forum". The event provided a lively platform for the exchange of ideas on future mobility. The speaker from TU Dresden and other experts from ITA at RWTH Aachen University, TraceTronic Ltd, KATECH, Ettifos Co. and Inha University shared their latest research results and promoted dialogue on innovative mobility solutions.

In his DIFA talk "Research and Innovation in Sustainable Lightweight Technology for E-Mobility" Paul Hoffeins showed how the ILK acts as a crucial link between science and industry, which develops and implements sustainability strategies for lightweight components under the banner of the newly founded expert group: Neutral Lightweight Engineering. The presentation of the lighthouse project DigiTain explained these efforts in more detail and showed how lightweight technologies and sustainability oriented product development lead to sustainable mobility solutions of tomorrow.
