16th December 2016
After the selection workshop in the end of November DLR confirms that our experiment will be on board of one of the BEXUS 24-25 balloons.
20th - 24th February 2017
Three team members take part in the Preliminary Design Review, presenting the experiment setup to the mission board. The PDR workshop and consultations are held in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich. After going more into detail designing our experiment and testing some components the LOTUS-XD team is now heading towards Critical Design Review at Estec near Amsterdam.
29th May - 2nd June 2017, CDR at ESA Estec
At the end of the month May three of our team members attended the Critical Design Review at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) near Leiden in the Netherlands. We presented our design concept to the experiment board and received a conditional pass with some improvements of our setup being carried out these days as we are heading towards Integration Process Review.
One member per team was invited to an in-flight harnessing and soldering course where the participant could improve their soldering skills especially with regards to producing circuit boards that are ready for space flight.
1st July, First experiment tube assembled
On 1st July our team mechanically assembled the first experiment tube at the aerospace institute´s workshop to carry out first tests with the lasers and solar cells. Assembly of the remaining mechanical components is scheduled to be happening soon so that our team can then focus on software design and general troubleshooting which is usually taking most of the time.
