Review of the 2nd ReDynEs workshop
On July 10, 2024, the second workshop of the ReDynEs junior research group took place, at which the results of a year of research were presented. The aim of ReDynEs is to develop a guideline for the optimal use of flywheel mass storage systems: Which technologies are suitable for which use cases?
Our early-career researchers presented exciting contributions on topics such as energy management, cost and safety considerations. Loss analyses were also carried out and the design of the rotor and drive train examined.
We would particularly like to thank the representatives from industry for their participation in the workshop: Frank Herbener from the Piller Power Company gave valuable insights into the technology of their flywheel mass storage systems in his keynote speech. Von Ardenne enriched the discussions with specialist knowledge from the fields of vacuum technology and rotary feed-through.
At the end of the day, all participants had the opportunity to visit the test halls of the Chairs of Machine Engineering, Machine Elements and Power Electronics.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for exchange between science and industry in order to further advance the development of flywheel mass storage technologies.
