Students explore Terex Fuchs in Bad Schönborn
A dozen interested students from TU and HTW Dresden made the long journey from Dresden to Bad Schönborn in the winter semester 2023/24 to gain an insight into the Terex Fuchs plant and the way it works. Under the guidance of David Roth and other members of the Systems Engineering Team led by Dr. Achim Kramer, we experienced a comprehensive company presentation and guided factory tour.
Terex Fuchs produces material handling machines with an impressive total weight of up to 150 tons on several production lines. The diverse product range requires a so-called Mixed-Model Production approach, producing various models of similar size in individual production lines.
This demands sophisticated logistics for smooth operations while providing maximum flexibility for assembly line workers.
Following assembly – with individual parts manufactured externally – all machines undergo thorough on-site testing before delivery to customers. During the factory tour, we had the opportunity to examine the variety of sizes, attachments, and features. In material handling technology, Terex Fuchs stands out for its ergonomically designed, comfortable, and easily adjustable cabin, as well as its maintenance-friendly uppercarriage design.
In addition to assembly and testing field, another focus, especially within the Systems Engineering Group, is on the early model-based examination of machines starting from the concept stage. Realistic simulation models enable numerous iteration loops in construction, drive system design, and control, even with smaller production runs, eliminating the need for numerous prototypes. This virtual prework significantly contributes to improving the final product quality and speeds up commissioning.
We would like to thank you - also on behalf of TU and HTW students - for the exciting and fascinating insight into the world of Terex Fuchs company.
