Energy efficient drive systems for handling tasks in production lines
Research Task/Objectives
Pneumatic and electro-mechanic drives are widely used in the production. Therefore, the choice of the optimal solution is the fundamental of energy efficient machines. The goal of the project is the development of a new method for the selection of cost-effective pneumatic and electric drive systems regarding the specific motion tasks. The method is implemented on the example of different end-user production systems. The project is realized in collaboration with companies FESTO, Xenon, and KHS, and research institute ISYS.
Approach/Results
At first, the production systems are analyzed with the focus on their energy efficiency. Along with that, the method for the system choice is developed. The method is used for supporting the further concept phase of a production system or for improving existing drive systems. Consequently, the practical use of the method is demonstrated and further improvements are determined.
The presented research activities are part of the project “Energy efficiency drive systems for handling tasks in production lines” (Ref. No. 03ET1385A), which was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy within the ZIM programme. The results were accrued in cooperation with Institute for System Dynamics (ISYS), Festo AG & Co. KG, KHS GmbH und XENON Automatisierungstechnik GmbH.
