Association
The Dresdner Freundeskreis der Werkzeugmaschinen- und Steuerungstechnik is a non-profit association. At present, it consists of 69 members altogether, 63 of whom are individuals and 6 are companies.
Purpose of the association
The purpose of the association is the promotion of science and research in the field of machine tools and control technology and the associated support of the Chair of Machine Tools Development and Adaptive Controls at the TU Dresden.
This concerns the following focal points:
- the initiation of research projects,
- the regular dissemination of research results,
- establishment, maintenance and coordination of contacts to industry and research institutions,
- the exchange of scientific and technical experience and
- questions of subject-specific education and training.

The Horst Berthold Study Award is presented every year during the Technical Seminar of Machine Tools. The prize is intended to promote excellent young engineers in the field of machine tools development at the TU Dresden and has been awarded annually since the 100th birthday of Prof. Dr. Horst Berthold on 21 March 2013 to students for special student research projects and dissertations.
