Study Industrial Design
The study of design Industrial Design Engineering integrates engineering and industrial design – in a way that is unique throughout Germany. In addition to comprehensive fundamentals of mechanical engineering, design basics, e.g. freehand sketching, 2D/3D fundamentals or color & trim. The strong project orientation consolidates the methodical and theoretical design knowledge with concrete project designs, and interdisciplinary co-operations invite for experimenting. With an excellently coordinated study programme, our students are optimally prepared for future tasks in the industry and creative business.

Study Industrial Design
At TU Dresden, students in technical disciplines have been trained as designers since 1954 in the framework of a minor, and since 1992 also with the requirements for professional qualification. The degree of a designer Dipl.-Ing. (in accordance with M. Sc.) remains an exception in Germany; it matches corresponding international developments in design training, however, and is very much in demand in the industry. A correspondingly large number of our 10 to 15 graduates every year, already have an employment contract even before their defence.
The graduates work as industrial designers, technical designers, design engineers, strak specialists in design or at the interface of design and technical development. Employers are small or medium-sized design agencies or medium-sized or large industrial enterprises with design departments. Some graduates also work as freelancers or in academia.
