Basics of Bioprocess Engineering
The course focuses on the following::
- Enzymatic product formation (kinetics and thermodynamics of enzymatic reactions)
- Cells as biocatalysts (structure of cells and kinetics of microbial growth)
- Mathematical modelling of different processing strategies (batch, fed-batch, continuous fermentation and conti with biomass retention)
- Bioprocesses in multiphase systems (especially oxygen transfer)
- Measurement and regulation of bioreactors
The corresponding practical course imparts the basic knowledge about the often appointed work techniques in bioprocess engeneering. Beside of physicochemical experiments, methods of propagation and reprocessing for the extraction of sample material out of microorganism-suspensions will be trained. An other topic is the immobilisation of microorganisms and enzymes including the implementation of analytics during the tests.
