Course on Opal with more details.
Praktikum im Hauptstudium Diplom 2004
Dieses Praktikum ist ein Individualpraktikum in der
Industrie.
- Umrechnung in ECTS credit points

Role-based Self-Sovereign Identity for Asset Management in a Warehouse
Self-sovereign Identity (SSI) is a new model for digital identity on Web 3.0 technology and we can efficiently prove identities to the websites, services, and applications. This is one of the biggest shifts in the application authentication and authorization area. Through this technology, interconnected machines can share identities with blockchain technology, which can provide auditable records, traceable IDs, and decentralized identities. Moreover, self-sovereign identity is a decentralized technology which means that the overall system should not rely on a centralized server, hence the processing time of authentication and verification will be faster than other technologies. The single point of failure would be eliminated using a decentralized network. One of the most popular approaches is the RFID which can track assets in a warehouse so as to ensure productivity and feasibility of real-time control. Even though it has many benefits such as faster scanning, reduced labor costs, or tracking of returnable assets, we have fundamental drawbacks, which we need to take into consideration them. Demanding infrastructure needs and security vulnerabilities of mobile RFID devices (cellphone, RFID equipment, etc.) can be solved by utilizing Self-Sovereign Identity applications.
Self-sovereign identity can provide coarse-grained services such as governance, credentials, secure communications, and identifiers. In this work, elements of credential service (issuer, holder, and verifier) can be implemented with an on-chain blockchain programming language such as Solidity. Roles can be interchangeably used like we can assign new verifier, issuer, and holder roles in the system upon the extended system requirements. Item tracking tasks are performed by a role or mutual exclusive roles can complete a sensitive task that is relevant to asset management. Access control elements of self-sovereign identity should be registered in the blockchain network(on-chain) and processed.
In this study, we would like to evaluate the following research questions (RQ).
- RQ 1: Can we substitute for the RFID technology aspect of item tracking through Role-based Self-Sovereign Identity System?
- RQ 2: Can we provide non-repudiation and accountability principles with Role-based SSI?
- RQ 3: Can we track all assets and inventory at once in multiple facilities with Role-based SSI?
