11th Congress of the Society of German Food Technologists and 70 Years of Food Technology at TU Dresden

The Chair of Food Engineering at TUD Dresden University of Technology co-hosted this year’s 11th Congress of the Society of German Food Technologists (GDL), which took place at TUD Dresden University of Technology from September 24–26, 2026. The conference provided scientists from both research and industry with a platform for professional exchange on current developments and issues in food technology.

The Chair of Food Engineering was also represented with numerous presentations from its various research areas. The work presented covered topics including exopolysaccharides, proteins, cleaning and cutting processes, and product technology. The conference thus provided insight into the breadth of current research at the Chair and, at the same time, offered numerous opportunities for exchange with colleagues from academia and industry.

A special highlight of the conference was the 70th anniversary of food engineering at TU Dresden. In her opening lecture, “70 Years of Food Engineering at TU Dresden – Tradition, Change, and the Future,” Prof. Anja Maria Wagemans looked back on the development of the field at TU Dresden while also focusing on future challenges and prospects for food engineering.

Following the scientific program, the joint evening events provided an opportunity to continue professional exchanges in a relaxed atmosphere. A special highlight was the anniversary celebration marking the 70th anniversary of the Food Engineering Department. In addition to culinary offerings from Die Vegane Fleischerei, Nosh, and ALGENWERK, the band Soul Cycle provided the evening’s musical entertainment.

The Chair of Food Engineering would like to thank all advisors, organizers, and everyone else involved who contributed to the success of the conference and the anniversary celebration. We would also like to thank all guests for the stimulating professional exchange and for celebrating this special milestone together.
