Technical Center Preforming
The Preforming pilot plant gives the institute a number of possibilities to process textile high-performance materials into a preform for the production of fiber-plastic composites. The following machinery has been integrated into the Preform Center:
- Forming station with hemispherical geometry (punch and bottom tool) and individually producible segmented hold-down clamps,
- Forming station with boomerang geometry (punch and bottom tool), individually producible segmented hold-down clamps, and infrared preheating station,
- Forming station with complex automobile geometry (top and bottom tool).
The individually controllable, segmented hold-down clamps and the possibility of integrating intermediate panels are the special features of the forming stations. The intermediate panels are given a clamping. Thus, the textile layers are locally clamped. All these measures taken for an active process design contribute to creaseless and load-adapted preforms. Extensive, robot-assisted measuring in deeper layers by means of eddy current technology is used to analyze the process results. Intensive research in all abovementioned areas is conducted at the ITM.
